American Conservation Film Festival

What We Offer

Imagine:

  • Four straight days dedicated to conservation film
  • The peace, beauty, and intimacy of a small historic university town in autumn
  • Filmmaker forums to discuss your film with our audience
  • Meet the Filmmaker receptions to mingle with colleagues and viewers

The American Conservation Film Festival is held each fall during the first weekend in November.  Starting on a Thursday night and running through Sunday evening, we screen some two-dozen films (many of them more than once) to a highly engaged audience in the university town of Shepherdstown, West Virginia, an hour-and-a-half ride from Washington DC, and Baltimore, Maryland.   This concentration of activity in the intimate setting of Shepherdstown makes the film festival the center of attention for four days.

Venues include the state-of-the-art auditorium at The Robert C. Byrd Auditorium at the National Conservation Training Center as well as the historic Opera House Theatre and facilities at Shepherd University.   Free lodging and meals are provided to filmmakers who attend the festival.

Student filmmakers are encouraged to submit their work to our Student Competition.  Those selected will be screened at the festival and considered for the best student film cash award.
