Songbird populations have been drastically declining for several decades, and a number of species face extinction. Based on Jonathan Franzen’s article in The New Yorker, Emptying the Skies chronicles the rampant poaching of migratory songbirds in southern Europe. This film follows an intrepid group of bird-lovers who risk their lives waging a secret war against poachers and the illegal trapping of songbirds.

This is a bit long, but hope you'll read:
ACFF was mentioned in a recent report published by The Cardinal Institute and Taxpayers Protection Alliance, two organizations funded by the Koch brothers. The report, titled Wild & Wasteful West Virginia – Waste, Fraud, & Abuse of Tax Dollars Exposed, targets a number of state agencies and organizations that support health and human services, education, and the arts. The report refers to ACFF as a “politically divisive, environmental extremist film festival.” We became aware of the report via an article in the January 28th issue of the Charleston Gazette Mail.
