October 12, 2017 – FESTIVAL KICK-OFF RECEPTION AT POPODICON, SHEPHERD UNIVERSITY, 4:30-6:30pm.

Join us for drinks, appetizers, and fun to get in the festival spirit!  If weather allows, we’ll gather in the beautiful garden to talk films, meet filmmakers, and enjoy delicious snacks and drinks, including special cocktails from our sponsor, Tito’s Handmade Vodka.  Sponsors and filmmakers admitted free.  $20/person requested donation for all others.  Limited space, so GET YOUR TICKET TODAY!

October 11 – 15 – FESTIVAL HEADQUARTERS at Entler Hotel, 129 E. German Street, Shepherdstown. Headquarters will be open October 11 -13, 2pm-6pm and October 14 & 15, noon-6pm to welcome you, sell festival tickets, and distribute programs and partner information. October 12 – FREE SCREENING of From the Ashes, 7pm at the Frank Art Center, 260 University Drive on Shepherd University campus. Discussion follows the film with Mary Anne Hitt, director of the Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal Campaign and WV Senator Jeff Kessler, who spearheaded initiatives to economically revitalize counties dealing with the departure of coal jobs and served on the legislature’s special investigative committee on mine safety after the Sago Mine Disaster. Both speakers are featured in the film.

October 13 &14 – CONSERVATION FILMMAKER WORKSHOP. National Conservation Training Center and Byrd Center for Congressional History & Education. Expert instruction from filmmakers and media experts on a variety of topics are offered to emerging and seasoned filmmakers. $75/student; $150/filmmaker.

October 14 – FILMMAKER WORKSHOP SESSIONS OPEN TO PUBLIC, 1:30 – 3:45pm at Byrd Center for Congressional History & Education on Shepherd University campus. Sit in on two engaging and informative sessions and learn what’s new in conservation filmmaking. $7/person for each session.

October 14 – EDIBLE INSECT TASTING – following Film Block 5 at the Frank Center and the screening of The Gateway Bug.  Local entomophagy enthusiast Steve Bailes will be preparing some tasty treats to share with film-goers in the lobby!

October 14 – ACFF WRAP PARTY, 9:30pm at the Blue Moon Café, 200 East High Street, Shepherdstown. Enjoy free noshes and cash bar at this always-festive party with filmmakers and festival-goers.

October 15 – BRING THE KIDS! 1pm at the National Conservation Training Center, 698 Conservation Way, Shepherdstown. Presenting the beautiful family feature film from Disney, Born in China, and presentation by Paul Marinari, Senior Curator at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute. Free to all students 18 & under.

October 20 – 22 – ACFF ENCORE WEEKEND at The Frank Art Center, 260 University Drive on Shepherd University Campus. Join us for a moving film block on faith and earth stewardship; Eagle Huntress, the film that dazzled audiences at Sundance; and encore showings of our eight award-winning films, including the ACFF Audience Choice Award winner.

October 21 – FREE SPECIAL EVENT – EARTH STEWARDSHIP & FAITH – Enjoy two contemplative films – Behold the Earth and excerpts from Saving Place, Saving Grace – about the relationship between stewardship and spirituality. Recently retired Pastor Randy Tremba of Shepherdstown Presbyterian Church will lead a discussion on our call to protect the planet.
