ACFF Festival Operations Manager Position Announcement

 The American Conservation Film Festival (ACFF) is a Shepherdstown, WV-based nonprofit organization promoting outstanding films and the arts to educate and inspire people to become engaged in conservation. For twelve years, ACFF has brought the best of conservation filmmaking to Shepherdstown in the form of a four-day film festival held each fall, along with special screening events throughout the year. ACFF is currently seeking to hire a part-time Festival Operations Manager.
Roles and Responsibilities
It is the role of the Festival Operations Manager to oversee all aspects of the planning and execution of the Film Festival, including but not limited to:

  • Planning and Coordination of Festival Events
  • Film Submission, Selection, Programming, and Solicitation
  • Filmmaker Communication and Coordination
  • Management of Film Venue Partnerships
  • Volunteer Recruitment and Coordination
  • General Operational and Administrative Functions

In addition, this role also requires a close working partnership with and support of the functions of the ACFF Development and Communications Director, including: Marketing and Promotion, Communication and Outreach, Fundraising, Grants and Partnership Development.

Compensation & Time Commitment Expectations
This is a part-time position to be paid on an hourly basis @ $15.00 per hour. Hours will vary seasonally, averaging approximately 30 hours per week. This position may, at times, require longer hours, including some late nights, in particular during the lead up to and delivery of the film festival.

Organization and Reporting
The Festival Operations Manager is responsible to the Board of Directors, with the day-to-day operational relationship and line of reporting to the President or Vice President of the Board.

Basic Qualifications for the Position
The ideal candidate for the ACFF Festival Operations Manager position will bring:

  • General experience in event support and coordination, preferably with nonprofit entities
  • Experience with and/or a sensibility about the arts, filmmaking and/or resource conservation/environmental concerns
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Effective written and verbal communications*
  • Solid organizational abilities and attention to detail
  • Proficiency with computers (experience with MS Word & Excel required, online and graphics experience preferred) and social media*
  • Reasonable physical abilities including standing for periods of time, walking distances and lifting moderately heavy boxes and other materials

* Effectiveness with email and social media communication is critical to the success of this position. The Festival Operations Manager is expected to check in on and promptly respond to ACFF email on a daily basis Monday – Friday. Email requirement ramp up significantly in the weeks leading up to the film festival.
